- training engineer officers through bachelor’s and master’s study programs in the accredited fields and specialties;
- providing specialized training for officers of the technical engineering service and for other categories of personnel within the Ministry of National Defence and other beneficiaries;
- providing advanced professional training for officers of the technical engineering service;
- providing training and professional development for military and civilian personnel selected for the specific needs of the defense, public order and national security system;
- carrying out scientific research and writing scientific papers for the benefit of the Ministry of National Defence and other beneficiaries.

Historical Landmarks
- 1949 – Military Technical Academy was established on the 15th of September 1949. The institution was originally organized into 5 faculties: Armament and Ammunition; Tanks and Moto-Mechanized Vehicles; Aviation; Communications; Navy.
- 1950 – Military Technical Faculty was organized into 8 faculties; the faculties of Applied Chemistry; Constructions and Fortifications; and Geodesy being subsequently added to the initial ones.
- 1956 – Military Technical Faculty was reorganized into 4 faculties: Armament; Mechanics; Transmissions; Military Constructions and Geodesy.
- 1959 – By Government Decision no.214/1959, the Military Technical Academy functioned distinctively, as a polytechnic academic entity within the Military Academy, under the name of “Military Technical Faculty”. This faculty was organized into the following sections: Armament; Armored Vehicles and Automobiles; Electronics; Aviation and Navy; Military Engineering, Geodesy and Chemistry.
- 1968 – By Government Decision no. 1037/01.01.1968, the Technical Sector was set up within the Military Academy, the sector being initially organized into 4 faculties and subsequently divided into 2 faculties: Mechanics; Military Electronics and Electrotechnics, and 2-3 sections: Artillery and Rockets; Military Chemistry; Military Constructions.
- 1988 – By Romania’s Supreme Defence Council Resolution no. A.C. 090/13.07.1987, the Technical Sector was disbanded and replaced with the Military Technical Faculty which was in its turn structured into 2 independent departments: Mechanics and Technology; Mathematics, Physics and Technical Drawing, and 3 sections: Radioelectronics; Armored Vehicles and Aviation; Missiles, Armament and Ammunition.
- 1990 – By Government Decision no. 550/17.05.1990, the Military Technical Academy was once again set up as a higher education institution in its own right, being structured into 4 faculties: Armament, Missiles and Ammunition; Aviation and Armored Vehicles; Electronics and Informatics; Military Engineering, Geodesy and Constructions.
- 1998 – The Military Technical Academy was reorganized into 3 faculties: Faculty of Armament, Missiles, Ammunition and Military Engineering; Faculty of Armored Vehicles and Aviation; Faculty of Radiolocation, Transmissions and Equipment for the Automation of Troop Command.
- 2004 – The Military Technical Academy was reorganized into 2 Faculties: Faculty of Integrated Armament Systems; Faculty of Military Electronic and Information Systems.
- 2008 – The Military Technical Academy was reorganized into 2 faculties: Faculty of Mechatronics and Integrated Armament Systems, Faculty of Military Electronic and Information Systems; 1 college and 1 department.
- 2018 – Starting with the academic year 2018/2019, the Military Technical Academy has been functioning within the following structure: Faculty of Integrated Armament Systems, Military Engineering and Mechatronics; Faculty of Aircraft and Military Vehicles, Faculty of Communications and Electronic Systems for Defence and Security; Faculty of Information Systems and Cyber Security, and the Department of Foreign Languages, Military Sciences and Management.
